CONTAMINATION / POLLUTION ASSESSMENT OF SOIL AROUND TANK FARMS IN OGHAREKI – OGHARA COMMUNITY IN ETHIOPE WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF DELTA STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study covers the determination of inorganic contaminants which include lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) in soil around tank farms in Oghareki community, Delta State. The soil samples were collected for a period of twelve months (April 2022 – March 2023) at distances of 100 meters to 1 kilometre away from the tank farms. Each of the samples was tested for the presence and concentration of heavy metals by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and data were presented as mean triplicate of analyses. Results of analyses showed Pb in the range of 5.508 – 18.715 and 9.35 – 1669mg/kg, Cd 3.210 – 9.121mg/kg, Fe 260.00 – 590.82 and 305.0-8 – 554.50mg/kg, Cu 3.121 – 13.139 and 5.08 – 10.919mg/kg and Zn 1.553 – 5.739 and 2.128 – 5.118mg/kg for months and distances of investigations respectively.
